PRP for Hair Regeneration

PRP (platelet-rich plasma) is a cutting-edge, non-surgical treatment for hair loss and thinning. If you are interested in hair restoration, PRP can be injected into the scalp to grow thicker, fuller hair. At West Coast Med Spa, we provide PRP treatments to all a who experience hair loss or thinning.

What is platelet-rich plasma?

Blood primarily consists of a liquid called plasma, and contains red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. Platelets play an important role in clotting blood, but they also contain hundreds of proteins called growth factors. Growth factors are commonly used by medical professionals to heal injuries. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is plasma that contains more platelets than what is typically found in your blood. A high concentration of platelets and growth factors can be 5-10 times richer than normal plasma.

In order to develop and prepare PRP, the provider at West Coast Med Spa will draw a small amount of your own blood. Using the centrifuge at our medical spa, we will separate platelets from other blood cells in order to increase their concentration.

How do PRP hair loss treatments work?

Studies show that the increased concentration of growth factors in PRP can speed up the healing process. For hair loss and thinning, PRP can be injected into the scalp in order to stimulate inactive hair follicles into active growth.

What can I expect during treatments?

We will draw a small amount of blood, similar to a routine blood sample appointment. Next, your blood sample is added to the centrifuge to prepare the PRP. Using centrifugal force, the centrifuge will separate the growth factors.

The platelet-rich plasma will then be added to a syringe and injected into your scalp. Injections allow us to deliver highly-concentrated platelet-rich plasma into the skin where your weak hair follicles exist. The entire procedure takes 30-60 minutes to complete, but there is no downtime after your treatment. You will be able to drive home after the procedure and immediately resume your normal routine.

What should I expect from the results?

With PRP treatment, you may experience improvements in hair thickness, texture, and growth after a few weeks. The entire process can take several months to see measurable results, however. For best results, we recommend 3 treatments, spaced 4 weeks apart.

Maintenance treatments are also necessary. We recommend that you come back for treatments once every 6 months to maintain your results.
